The Clinical Research Associate role is in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University. The division has approximately 19 full-time faculty members and is a combination of bench and clinical research.
The Clinical Research Associate role will independently manage day-to-day operations including identifying & securing needed resources; creating, implementing, monitoring, and updating project plans; facilitating meetings with appropriate parties; tracking tasks/deliverables to ensure timelines, milestones and/or goals are attained; monitoring & reporting progress as appropriate; and resolving or escalating issues in a timely manner. Specifically, the clinical research associate will be responsible for managing research-related activities for both epidemiological and novel interventional studies in diabetes (Type 1, with opportunities in Type 2), including retention and recruitment of participants, participant screening, data collection and reporting, subject management, adverse event reporting, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and IRB-approved protocols. Additional possibilities include budgetary management, manuscript and/or grant writing/preparation, and other opportunities for advancement.
The successful candidate is exceptionally detail-oriented, may have prior experience working in either clinical trials or observational research studies, or previously worked in a clinical diabetes setting and have a strong interest in clinical research. Candidates with prior clinical experience (RN, APP, RD, etc.) are preferred. They will need to collaborate effectively as an individual and in a team and contribute to building a positive team culture, have strong critical thinking skills, be creative and thoughtful in proposing ideas to achieve the study goals, and be technologically proficient with the ability to learn and navigate electronic medical record systems and project databases, and understand regulatory operations.

Interested candidates should send a resume/CV and cover letter to christina.coventry@northwestern.edu.
Postdoctoral
A postdoctoral position is available in the Beutler laboratory, based in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Molecular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University’s Chicago campus. The Beutler lab investigates gut-brain regulation of appetite and its disruption during the development of obesity and other disease states.
The postdoctoral research scientist in the lab will conduct research using modern neuroscience approaches including in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetics, and chemogenetics to dissect how peripheral signals alter the dynamics of hypothalamic and brain stem nuclei.
Highly motivated candidates should hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with interest and experience in neuroscience, mouse behavior, and metabolism. Critical thinking, organization skills and clear communication are essential qualities. Experience in behavioral or systems neuroscience preferred. The salary will be based on the National Institutes of Health NRSA scale and commensurate with experience.
Interested applicants should submit a CV and brief cover letter describing research experience, research interests and career goals along with a list of three references to Dr. Lisa Beutler MD, PhD at lisa.beutler@northwestern.edu.
