Northwestern Rheumatology was an easy choice! From interview day onwards, I felt so welcome - the supportive, collegial atmosphere truly defines the program. Our faculty are not only leaders in their field with groundbreaking research and clinical expertise but are also deeply committed to mentorship and collaborative learning. Their dedication to fostering a supportive environment where fellows can thrive academically and professionally was a decisive factor for me. The combination of exceptional mentorship, robust clinical training, and a collaborative environment - in a city as amazing as Chicago! - made Northwestern an ideal place for my fellowship training.

I chose to continue my training at Northwestern because of its collaborative and supportive learning environment and commitment to developing innovative approaches to address disparities within health care. I believed Northwestern was the ideal institution to allow me to train with and learn from different experts within this field while receiving exposure to a wide range of varying presentations of Rheumatological illness. The icing on top was getting to complete this training in Chicago, easily the best city in the country (maybe even the world)!

Northwestern Rheumatology offers both the strong clinical foundation and research mentorship that I am looking forward to further achieve my career aspirations. I feel fortunate to be afforded comprehensive rheumatologic training from world-class clinical experts during our subspecialty clinics, general continuity clinics, and inpatient consult services. In addition, there are vast opportunities to further pursue basic science, translational, clinical, and medical education/advocacy research. What makes Northwestern Rheumatology also unique is its palpable collaborative spirit amongst the faculty, spearheaded by dedicated program leadership. Lastly, this well-rounded program resides in one of the greatest cities; although I am a born-and-bred East Coaster, I must admit that Chicago has truly captured my heart with its numerous museums, scenic lakeshore trails and parks, and endlessly diverse gastronomy.

Residency: Northwestern University, McGaw Medical Center

I chose Northwestern for residency and fellowship due to its robust research opportunities and breadth of clinical exposure in a large, diverse city. However, it was the supportive learning environment that truly won me over. Northwestern has a strong culture of collegiality not only amongst the housestaff, but also at the faculty level. The rheumatology faculty here welcomed me into the department even before I officially began my fellowship, inviting me to join in clinical opportunities and events while I was still a resident. They have actively encouraged my research interests and are committed to the success of each of their trainees. Additionally, with its amazing restaurants, shows, beaches, lakeside trails, and rooftop bars, downtown Chicago is a phenomenal place live!

The faculty and fellows made choosing Northwestern an easy choice. From my interview day to now being a fellow, everyone has been so welcoming and approachable. I am incredibly lucky to be training at a program that allows me to see such a wide spectrum of rheumatologic disease while learning from experts in the field. Additionally, this program offers many different resources to support my career goals and places a priority on helping fellows find good mentorship. Never having lived in the Midwest, I’ve come to love Chicago. This city has an unparalleled food culture, world class architecture, and a penchant for festivals celebrating everything from chicken wings to live music.
